The makers of the animation software application CelAction 2D have announced a new add-in for the program called PlusOne that lets 2D animators work in a full 3D environment and output their work in stereoscopic 3D.
PlusOne will let users view their work using 3D glasses to edit stereoscopic scenes in real time and without having to render them first. Full 3D environments can be created either using existing 2D artwork oriented in 3D or by importing textured 3D models from a variety of standard formats. An unlimited number of cameras with full xyz movement and rotation can be set up and moved freely around the set.
“This is a breakthrough for 2D animation,” said Andy Blazdell, CEO of CelAction. “Other 2D software companies have made half-hearted attempts to cash in on the stereoscopic boom, but we’re taking 3D stereoscopy very seriously. We’ve implemented powerful yet easy to use features, designed to enhance the 3D viewing experience, both for the animator and the audience. This isn’t just an afterthought, we have integrated it into our workflow properly.”
To make sure that CelAction’s 3D efforts are in line with the market’s needs, they have teamed up with Alexander Lentjes from 3D Revolution Productions, a leading expert in stereoscopic 3D animation production.
The PlusOne module is an optional add-in to CelAction2D Professional Edition, and is automatically included in CelAction2D Studio Edition.
