A pair of comedies aimed at adults are looking to topple Toy Story 3 from the top of the box office this weekend.
Up first is the action-comedy Knight and Day, starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz, which opened Wednesday in just under 3,100 cinemas. The film took in an estimated $3.8 million its first day.
Opening Friday is the comedy Grown Ups, starring comic draws Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider, Salma Hayek and more, on just more than 3,500 cinemas.
Disney-Pixar’s Toy Story 3, meanwhile, continues to lead the pack. The film grossed an estimated $13 million on Wednesday ‘ more than four times Knight and Day‘s gross ‘ giving it a good shot at retaining its crown.
Also still in play is DreamWorks Animation’s Shrek Forever After, as well as holdovers such as The Karate Kid, The A-Team and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.
