Glee star Lea Michele will play Dorothy in a new animated musical feature titled Dorothy of Oz.
Production company Summertime Entertainment also announced Oliver Platt has been cast as the voice of Wiser the Owl, Megan Hilty as the China Princess, Hugh Dancy as Marshal Mallow, and Patrick Stewart as Tugg. Other cast members include Martin Short as the Jester, Dan Aykroyd as the Scarecrow, Jim Belushi as the Lion and Kelsey Grammer as the Tin Man.
Music will be provided by Canadian rocker Bryan Adams, working with his writing partner Jim Vallance.
The musical feature will include several musical numbers and will be produced in stereoscopic 3-D. Summertime has launched a new interactive teaser website to promote the film at www.dorothyofoz.com.
The feature, based on the famous book series by Roger S. Baum ”the great grandson of original Oz author L. Frank Baum ”and the classic 1939 musical, is being produced by veteran animation producer Bonne Radford and directed by Dan St. Pierre.
The film is set to finish production in late 2011, with a release date to be determined.
