It’s a big new video day for animation fans in general and Seth MacFarlane fans in particular.
Today sees the DVD release of two new sets of MacFarlane shows: American Dad! Vol. 5 (Fox, $39.98) and Family Guy: Vol. 8 (Fox, $49.98). Both feature extended, uncensored episodes from the hit Fox series as well as bonus features.
MacFarlane fans also will want to check out the release of Johnny Bravo: Season One (Warner Bros., $24.98), which finally brings the classic Cartoon Network to DVD. The release features a series documentary; a commentary featuring MacFarlane, who was a writer on the series; pencil tests; and an entire temp track from MacFarlane.
On the feature side of things is Mary and Max (MPI, $24.98 DVD, $29.98 Blu-ray), Adam Elliot’s excellent stop-motion feature about the unusual pen-pal friendship between a neurotic, middle-age New Yorker and a young girl in Australia.
If opera is more your taste, there is an animated version of Tristan & Isolde (E1 Entertainment, $14.98) also out today.
On the children’s side of things, there’s Sara Hickman’s collection of animated songs for preschoolers, Big Bird, Little Bird ($14.95), available at sarahickman.com.
Also new this week is Bob The Builder: Building From Scratch (HIT Entertainment, $14.98), featuring five episodes of the series; Max & Ruby: A Visit with Grandma (Paramount, $16.99); and Yo Gabba Gabba!: Clubhouse (Paramount, $16.99)
