Scribes to Cast Doctor Strange Spell for Marvel

Marvel Studios has hired writers Thomas Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer to write a screenplay for Doctor Strange, according to Deadline.com.

The project starring Marvel’s sorcerer supreme, who debuted in the pages of Strange Tales #110 in 1963, would become the first movie greenlit by Marvel since it was acquired last year by Disney.

Donnelly and Oppenheimer wrote the screenplay for a Conan movie now in production and an unproduced script based on the video game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. They also took a pass at Cowboys and Aliens, another movie based on a comic that is shooting now in New Mexico.

Doctor Strange previously appeared in a 1978 TV movie and a 2007 animated DVD feature.
