Disney’s animated heroine Tinker Bell may be getting a new dimension as the studio plans to put the character in a live-action romantic comedy starring Elizabeth Banks.
According to Variety, Adam Shankman, McG and Jennifer Gibgot will produce the film, which was developed by Banks in conjunction with Max Handelman at her production company Brownstone Prods. and Matt Smith of Offspring Entertainment.
Elizabeth Wright Shapiro is on board to write the film.
Expect the film to evoke comparisons to Enchanted, Disney’s 2007 release in which an animated princess comes to the live action world in Manhattan.
Disney’s Tinker Bell, who first appeared in the classic 1953 animated film Peter Pan, has in recent years starred in a successful run of direct-to-DVD animated features.
