A 7-year-old South African boy named Fenias Timbe has won a voice-over competition and earned a role in the nation’s first full-length 3D animated feature film.
Timbe will voice one of the siblings of Jock of the Bushveld in the feature film directed by Duncan MacNeillie. The film is based on the classic South African novel of the same name by Percy Fitzpatrick and is produced by Jock Animation.
Chosen from more than 2,500 entrants, Timbe is an orphan living with his grandmother in Kensington, where he attends school and is an avid fan of cricket. His voice will be used in three scenes in the movie, which will also include credits for Sir Tim Rice, Johnny Clegg, Archbishop emeritus Desmond Tutu, Marius Brouwer, Nia Nell and Jeremy Mansfield.
MacNeillie made a live-action adaptation of the story in 1992.
