Cookie Jar Entertainment is entering production on a new slate of TV series that mixes animation and live-action content that brings comedy to tween and teen audiences.
The series include Mudpit, which will feature a gaming concept that uses both live action and animated segments; and the live-action teen sitcom Decidedly Debra; and a fifth season of the animated series Johnny Test.
The company says Teletoon Canada has ordered 26 half-hour episodes of Mudpit, which will star live-action teens who cross over into CG animation as they play various online games in a virtual world called Musika. The series is the creation of Jamie Waese (The Doodlebops, Gotta Catch Santa Claus), while the show-runner is Bruce Kalish (Aaron Stone, The Famous Jett Jackson). Jeff Biederman serves as co-executive producer (Overruled, Life with Derek, Totally Spies) and the music supervisor is Chris Taylor. Mudpit stars teen talent Jesse Rath, Carleigh Beverly, Vasanth Saranga and Daniel Magder.
Airing on Teletoon Canada and Cartoon Network in multiple territories, Johnny Test returns for a fifth season that will bring the total series run to 92 half-hour episodes. Creator and executive producer Scott Fellows (Big Time Rush) also returns to helm for the new episodes.
‘With an increased focus on comedy, tween and teen programming, which complements our already strong preschool library, Cookie Jar is poised for success in today’s television marketplace,’ says president and COO Toper Taylor.
