Illumination to Reboot Curious George

Curious George is getting another shot at the big screen, thanks to the success of Despicable Me.

Illumination Entertainment, which produced the current hit Despicable Me with Universal Studios, is developing a new feature film version of the classic children’s book series, according to the Los Angeles Times’ Hero Complex blog.

The move is a sort of second chance for Curious George, which made it to the screen four years ago as a 2-D animated feature and a direct-to-DVD follow up. That film, which had been in development for years, fell short of expectations by grossing $58 million domestically and $11 million overseas.

The new version is a full reboot, with Larry Stuckey set to write the script, the Times reports
