The Walt Disney Co. has completed its sale of indie subsidiary Miramax to Filmyard Holdings ‘ a deal that includes some rights to the animated feature film Gnomeo and Juliet.
The Filmyard-helmed version of Miramax will release the animated feature in the United States on Feb. 11, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Miramax financed the film, which is being produced by London-based Rocket Pictures and made at the Starz Animation Studio in Toronto.
The film is currently in post-production and features the voices of James McAvoy, Emily Blunt, Michael Caine, Maggie Smith and Patrick Stewart. It features songs co-written by Elton John, a partner in Rocket Pictures.
Under the terms of the sale, the film will be distributed by Disney through its Touchstone Pictures label.
Meanwhile, rights to distribute the film in the United Kingdom and Canada have been sold to E1 Entertainment, according to Variety.
