The Other Guys ended Inception’s reign atop the box office rankings, while animated fare Despicable Me and Toy Story 3 remained top-ten films weeks into their theatrical runs.
Other Guys lead all comers this weekend with $35.6 million ‘ nearly double what the No. 2 movie, Inception, raked in at $18.6 million. Inception has so far grossed $227 million domestic and $250 million overseas for a $477 million worldwide total in four weeks of release.
The week’s other new release, Step Up 3D, opened in third place with an estimated $15.5 million.
Falling two places from last weekend to sixth place was Despicable Me, which earned $9.4 million for its fifth weekend of release. That brings it to $209 million domestic and $43 million overseas for a $252 million total. The film has several major foreign markets it has not yet played in, including the United Kingdom and Ireland.
Also slipping two spots to ninth place is Disney-Pixar’s Toy Story 3, which earned about $3 million in its eighth weekend of release. The film has raked in a whopping $396 million domestic and just under $500 million overseas for a worldwide gross of $895 million.
DreamWorks Animation’s Shrek Forever After meanwhile added $430,000 to its total in its 12th weekend of release. It has grossed $236 million domestically and $426 million overseas for a total of $663 million.
