Temple Hill, producers of The Twilight Saga films, have acquired the movie rights to the beloved children’s book character Babar, according to Deadline.
The deal, struck between Temple Hill partners Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey and rights holders Nelvana and The Clifford Ross Co., could result in a comedy movie that mixes live-action and CG animation.
Temple Hill will shop the concept to studios in search of financing, Deadline says.
Nelvana and Clifford Ross are currently in a production on an a CG animated TV series titled Babar and the Adventures of Babou.
The elephant character was created by French author Laurent de Brunhoff and first appeared in 1931. There are more than 30,000 Babar publications in 19 languages.
