André Kadi and Karine Vézina’s charming animated feature Hola Frida, will begin its limited theatrical run in the U.S. courtesy of Level 33 Entertainment on August 8. The lovingly crafted 2D-animated pic introduces a new generation to one of the most iconic artists of the 20th century— Frida Kahlo. Known for her strength, resilience, and creativity, Frida revolutionized modern art through her unique blend of expressionism, surrealism, and deep-rooted Mexican culture. Her life and legacy continue to inspire audiences worldwide, and this film is dedicated to her indelible spirit.
Based on the celebrated animated series and book Frida, c’est moi, Hola Frida tells a playful and heartfelt story of Frida’s childhood. Set in vibrant Coyoacán, Mexico, young Frida finds refuge in her imagination as she faces illness—revealing the earliest sparks of the artist she would become.
The family movie features the voices of Layla Tuy Sok, Lucinda Davis, Angela Galuppo, Oscar Vaillancourt, Marcel Jeannin , Eleanor Noble, Holly Gauthier-Frankle, Robert Naylor and Wyatt Bowen. The film won a special mention at the 2025 Cinekindl Festival and also screened at the New York International Children’s Film Festival earlier this year.
