Ahead of San Diego Comic-Con, The Nacelle Company has announced that the wacky Western world of 1990s cult toon Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa is heading back to screens with a new animated series. The project is part of the companies “NacelleVerse” rebooting and reunification of vintage brands such as Biker Mice from Mars and RoboForce.
The original 1991 Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa series, created by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics artist Ryan Brown, was produced by Greengrass Productions in association with King World Productions. The show was set on the sweeping Western plains of the 19th century, after an irradiated comet has struck Earth, creating an isolated mesa and “cow-metizing” all the denizens into “bovimorphic” cow-human hybrids. Stories laced with steampunk and Weird West elements followed CowTown’s peacekeeping posse, the C.O.W. (Code of the West) Boys.
The reboot will continue the adventures of Marshal Moo Montana, the Cowlorado Kid and Dakota Dude as they protect the frontier from the corrupt Mayor Oscar Bulloney, Sheriff Terrorbull and other varmints. Other characters like Cody Calf, Cowlamity Kate and Lily Bovine will also appear in the new show. The eight-episode animated series will share a connected universe and timeline with the RoboForce and Biker Mice from Mars animated reboots.
Ahead of the new toon, which is due in 2027, Nacelle is partnering with Oni Press to launch a four-issue comics series C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa: Origins, which will rehash how the gang got together and serve as a direct prelude to the TV series.
SDCC attendees can check out new NacelleVerse projects and participated in limited edition giveaways at the Nacelle booth, #2547.
