Ahead of the animated feature’s North American premiere as part of the Centerpiece program at Toronto International Film Festival in September, global agency Indie Sales has secured a number of deals to distribute Dandelion’s Odyssey around the world. The feature film debut of Japanese director Momoko Seto premiered at Cannes Critic’s Week, winning the FIPRESCI Award, and went on to screen at Annecy, where it took home the Paul Grimault Award.
The international deals cover Switzerland (Praesens), Greece (Cinobo), Poland (Best Film), Baltic States (GPI), Ex-Yugoslavia (MCF Megacom), Latin America (Cinetopia), Indonesia (PT Falcon) and Philippines (Crystalsky Multimedia).
Gebeka will release Dandelion’s Odyssey in France in March 2026. A Benelux release is also set up through Bantam.
Synopsis: Dendelion, Baraban, Léonto and Taraxa — four dandelion achenes that survive from a series of nuclear explosions destroying Earth — are propelled into the cosmos. After crash-landing on an unknown planet, they set out in search of soil where their species might survive. However, they must face countless obstacles: the elements, fauna, flora, the climate.
The non-dialog, CG-hybrid eco-fantasy is directed by Seto, who wrote the screenplay with Alain Layrac, and animated by Guionne Leroy (Toy Story), with production design by Nils Dupré. The music was scored by Nicolas Beckre and Quenten Sirjacq.
Dandelion’s Odyssey is produced by Miyu Productions (France) and Ecce Films (France), in co-production with Umedia (Belgium), Arte France Cinema, CNRS (France) and Reepost (France/Belgium). Producers are Emmanuel-Alain Raynal, Pierre Baussaron and Emmanuel Chaumet.
