A Tokyo high school student named Yuken Enma is spirited away to a magical world of familar Disney villains from its classic animated movies in Disney+’s new anime series Twisted-Wonderland. The show, which is set to premiere on the streamer on Oct. 29 is based on a popular Aniplex and Disney Japan mobile game that debuted five years ago. Yana Toboso, the creator of Black Butler, created the concept, scenario and character designs.
Summoned through a magic mirror, the main character arrives at a magic school named Night Raven College. He is taken in by the school’s headmaster and becomes familiar with the school’s top students, each in seven dormitories, based on different Disney villains, as he searches for a way to get back home before he crosses paths with the Rose-Red Tyrant, Riddle Rosehearts. Three seasons of the show are in the works s each based on the first three story chapters, respectively titled “Episode of Heartslabyul”, “Episode of Savanaclaw”, and “Episode of Octavinelle.”

The world of Twisted-Wonderland features seven great legendary figures: the Queen of Hearts (Alice in Wonderland), the King of Beasts (Scar, The Lion King), the Sea Witch (Ursula, The Little Mermaid), the Sorcerer of the Sands (Jafar, Aladdin) the Evil Queen (Snow White), the King of the Underworld (Hades, Hercules), and the Thorn Fairy (Maleficent, Sleeping Beauty). These villains create seven magical dormitories at Night Raven Collage, a special academy for budding witches and wizards.
The animated series is produced by Yumeta Company, Graphinica, Aniplex and Walt Disney Japan.
The Twisted Wonderland game has been downloaded over 4.8M times in Japan, with manga and novel adaptations and other consumer products.
