Nielsen Numbers Peg ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ as Top Streaming Movie

The smash-hit, music-filled animated feature KPop Demon Hunters hit an all time high on the Nielsen charts for the week of July 14-20. Already cinched as Netflix’s most popular animated movie of all time and the first animated movie to reach the all-time Top 10 English-language films list (No. 2), Maggie Kang and Chris Applehans’ trio of idol heroines came in at the top spot of Nielsen’s streaming movie chart with 949 million minutes viewed — its highest weekly total since launching on June 20.

KPop Demon Hunters also ranked on the overall Top 10 list for the time period, at No. 3 behind Netflix’s new Eric Bana crime drama Untamed (2.1B minutes viewed) and the platform’s Canadian medical drama/romance Sullivan’s Crossing, now in its third season (1.356B minutes viewed). Nielsen’s charts lag real time by four weeks, meaning consistent hit KPop is likely to stay on the charts for while — especially as fans get their re-watch training in to prepare for the recently announced sing-along event screenings.

Other animated titles on Nielsen’s July 14-20 lists are preschool favorites Bluey (Disney+, 896M mins.) at No. 5 overall and No. 2 for acquired series , and PAW Patrol (Netflix/Paramount+, 715M mins.) at No. 10 overall and No. 5 for acquired series; primetime comedy Family Guy (Hulu, 688M mins) at No. 7  for acquired series; and the evergreen SpongeBob SquarePants (Paramount+, 684M mins.) giggling into the No. 8 acquired series spot. A special mention goes to the CG-laced A Minecraft Movie (HBO Max), which totted up 255M minutes viewed to rank No. 8 on the movies list.

Per the most recent Netflix Top 10 numbers (August 4-10), KPop Demon Hunters earned another 25.9 million views to remain steady at No. 2 on the English Film List in addition to holding fast to its all-time movies silver medal.

Meanwhile, supernatural romantic-thriller anime Dan Da Dan landed at No. 3 on the Non-English TV list with 2.5 million views.
