Norman Grossfeld is setting up a new Seoul- and L.A.-based outfit with Korea’s Aanaxion Studio, dubbed Konfetti Studios. Grossfeld, who co-wrote and produced many of the movies from the Pokémon anime franchise and is credited with coming up with the tagline “Gotta Catch ‘Em All,” will oversee the new label, which will focus on the kids’ entertainment facet of the global K-content boom.
Konfetti will produce original kids’ and family IP, starting with animation and multiplatform content. The studio launches with a development slate underway and five core staff members. “Konfetti is built for today’s audience,” Grossfeld told Deadline. “We’re designing brands that celebrate kids, spark smiles, and get their toes tapping. Fresh IP made for their world, filled with fun and built to travel.”
The new studio’s starter development slate includes Nanopop, in which the “biggest pop stars in the world have a giant tiny secret”; Sumomojo, a collectible creatures format; and magic-infused preschool musical series Hugglebops.
Grossfeld was previously Executive Vice President of Animation for Legendary Entertainment. He was the longtime President of 4Kids Productions, where he works on many aspects of the Pokémon brand and helped drive the global popularity of hit animation franchises such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Winx Club and Yu-Gi-Oh!
