Ankama (ankama.com), creators of the Dofus and Wakfu transmedia universes, announces the acquisition of a majority stake (51%) in Andarta Pictures (andarta-pictures.com), an independent animation studio based in Valence. This equity investment marks Andarta’s official exit from court-appointed receivership, and ensures the continuation of its activitie — including the ongoing production of the animated adaptation of Ewilan’s Quest (La Quête d’Ewilan), based on the book by Pierre Bottero.
“This alliance unites two studios that share the same vision, one of high-quality, meaningful independent animation. Together, we aim to craft strong sagas at the crossroads of adventure and self-discovery,” said Anthony Roux, founder and creative director of Ankama. “A new chapter — both creatively and structurally — is opening with Andarta. A clear artistic alignment, but also a strategic decision oriented towards the future.”
Ewilan’s Quest now joins Ankama’s portfolio of stories developed and delivered to fans for more than 20 years. Going forward, the studios intend to co-develop new formats based on both existing and original licenses, following Ankama’s established transmedia approach.
“After a challenging first half of the year for Andarta Pictures, the entire team is delighted to join the Ankama group!” said Sophie Saget, founder and producer of the Andarta studio. “Their trust and support will let us sustain our ambitions and face the future with serenity.”
Currently in production and previously set to launch on France Télévision this year, Ewilan’s Quest is an 8 x 26′ 2D fantasy series for kids eight to 12 and families. The story centers on a 13-year-old girl named Camille, whose live is changed forever when she is unexpectedly transported to the fantastical world of Gwendalavir — a land inhabited by creatures as extraordinary as they are dangers. Here, Camille and her friend Salim discover her true name, Ewilan, and learn the truth of her roots and how they entwine wit the fat of Gwendalavir. Uncovering her inborn talent of “designing,” Ewilan helps turn the tide in her people’s struggle with the terrible Ts’lich.
