We have a new English-language trailer for director Usman Riaz’s acclaimed 2D-animated feature The Glassworker. The movie, which debuted at Annecy last year, was produced entirely in Karachi by Mano Animation Studios and has drawn comparisons to Studio Ghibli for its painterly visuals and resonant, anti-war themes.
The feature, which was Pakistan’s official submission for Best International Feature at the 97th Academy Awards, was the first 2D-animated feature produced entirely in Pakistan. It will be released in the U.S. on August 15 by Watermelon Pictures.
The official synopsis: “In a town divided by duty and class, Vincent, a glassmaker’s son, and Alliz, a violinist and the colonel’s daughter, fall in love. As their bond deepens, rising tensions between their families threaten to pull them apart. Brought to life through stunning hand-drawn animation, The Glassworker is a poetic tale of first love, family, and the price of staying true to your art.”
