‘Blue Lock’ Anime Gets Season 3 Re-Up, Live-Action Film to Premiere During 2026 World Cup

Popular soccer battle anime series Blue Lock is hitting the pitch once again. Following the success of its second season, Blue Lock vs. U-20 Japan, it has been officially announced at the “Blue Lock Egoist Festa 2025” fan event that the anime will return for a third season, currently in production.

Based on the globally popular manga series by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yusuke Nomura, currently running in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine with over 50 million copies in circulation worldwide, Blue Lock‘s first season aired from October 2022 to March 2023, and spawned the feature event  Blue Lock The Movie -Episodes Nagi-.

“Season 3 is officially confirmed! We did it… Huge thanks to the entire Egoist production team…!,” Kaneshiro shared in the announcement. “This marks a brand-new beginning for Isagi and for us as well! We’ll be creating this with full ego, eyes spinning and tongues out, so get on your knees and wait for it!”

Nomura commented, “It’s finally been announced! A brand-new anime series! We’re finally bringing the Neo Egoist League to life on screen. The eccentric international players — who are even more intense than the Blue Lock team — are coming. Please wait for it!”

In addition to the anime’s third season, it was also revealed that Blue Lock will be adapted into a live-action film for the first time, with a nationwide Japanese release set for summer 2026, coinciding with the World Cup. The film will be produced by Credeus, the studio behind the Kingdom and Golden Kamuy film series, as well as Kokuhou, Japan’s second-highest-grossing film of all time. The project is executive produced by CK Works and will be distributed in Japan by Toho.
