Don Hertzfeldt Kicks Off ‘Animation Mixtape’ Tour in Las Vegas

The Beverly Theater welcomed fans Thursday night for the Las Vegas premiere of Don Hertzfeldt’s Animation Mixtape, marking the first official local launch event for Ink Films, the venue’s new theatrical distribution arm.

Celebrated animator and two-time Academy Award nominee Don Hertzfeldt, who curated the short film showcase, was the guest of honor, posing for photos on a themed red carpet before introducing the film. During his remarks, Hertzfeldt spoke about his passion for animation, how the process has evolved over the years, and what inspired him to curate this collection of 12 animated shorts.

Guests enjoyed a lively evening inside Downtown Las Vegas’ premier indie film house, complete with custom cocktails and light bites — including cookies decorated with Hertzfeldt’s signature doodle-esque characters.

“Premiering Animation Mixtape with Don right here at The Beverly Theater is a flagship representation of our mission to champion independent voices and the magic of moviegoing,” said Kip Kelly, Chief Experience Officer of The Beverly Theater and Founding Head of Ink Films.

The Las Vegas premiere kicked off a weeklong exclusive engagement in Vegas, running through September 27 at The Beverly Theater. The film continues its deliberate, city-by-city rollout across North America, including stops in New York, Austin, and more. Presented by Ink Films and designed for the big screen, Animation Mixtape is described as a genre-defying journey through 12 of the most imaginative animated short films from around the world, featuring work from Richard Condie, Bruce Bickford, Wendy Tilby & Amanda Forbis, Mark Baker, Corrinne James, David OReilly, Jesse Moynihan and others.

Tickets for the remaining Las Vegas showtimes are available at thebeverlytheater.com.
