Glitch Launches Pilot for ‘Knights of Guinevere,’ Its Debut 2D Animation from ‘Owl House’ Alums

Knights of Guinevere [Glitch Productions]

From the minds of The Owl House creator Dana Terrace, story editor/producer John Bailey Owen and staff writer Zach Marcus, independent animation studio Glitch Productions today debuted Knights of Guinevere, a psychological thriller that welcomes you to a planet-wide theme park in the clouds … and the shadows below, where a broken Princess Android is two dreamers’ tickets to better lives, or the end of them.

The buzzy project, aimed at adult audiences, marks the studio’s first 2D animated endeavor. It follows Andi and Frankie, two destitute android engineers who embark on a deep drop down a “rabbit hole of fantastical horrors.”

Since launching in 2019, Glitch has quickly expanded its initial portfolio of fully self-funded and independently produced 3D animated properties including The Amazing Digital Circus, Murder Drones and The Gaslight District, resulting in a community of over 16 million followers on YouTube. Now entering its eighth year, the studio’s content is also prominently featured on multiple streaming platforms around the world, including Netflix and Prime Video.

Determined to bring the imaginative vision of its creators to life, the Knights of Guinevere team embraced numerous challenges in undertaking their first 2D-animated series — including building an entirely new production pipeline..

Terrace, Owns and Marcus’s vision has developed into a pilot that the producers note blends grit, morbid curiosity, whimsy and adventure into an unsettling, yet captivating, story. Inspirations for Knights of Guinevere span boundary-pushing animated works such as Neon Genesis Evangelion, Paprika and Scavengers Reign.

Knights of Guinevere is a passion project that me, Zach and John have the privilege to make with some of the best artists, animators, musicians and production crew we know,” Terrace commented for the pilot announcement. “And thank you, Glitch, for reaching out in the first place and making all this possible. There is no universe where this could’ve been made at any other studio. Thank you for trusting us to do what we know how to do: make dope shit!”

Glitch Productions CEO Kevin Lerdwichagul added, “Knights of Guinevere represents an exciting new chapter for Glitch as we expand into 2D animation for the first time. Our mission has always been to tell bold, emotionally resonant stories that sit in the underserved space between kids’ cartoons and adult comedies, and this pilot perfectly embodies that ethos. We’re thrilled to collaborate with visionary storytellers like Dana Terrace, Zach Marcus, and John Bailey Owens to bring this dark, psychological tale to life and to share it directly with everyone around the world.”

Synopsis: Knights of Guinevere is a sci-fi psychological thriller set on Park Planet, a planet-wide amusement park floating above the sky whose crown jewel is Princess Guinevere, an android mascot created by the park’s team of space engineers, designed in countless forms and celebrated as the wonder and beauty of the park. Yet behind the spectacle lies a troubling and dark story tied to the park’s owners. Floating high above the surface, the park casts a shadow over the scrappy, rustic towns below — one of which, M7, becomes home to our story.

We meet Andi, a junior space engineer working for park planet, and Frankie, a chipper merch-factory worker who scavenges scrap with her father, Sparky, aboard their worn-down fishing boat. Their lives shift dramatically when Frankie discovers an abandoned Guinevere android, which she hopes will lift her out of her dead-end work and into a future as an engineer for the park. Reluctantly aided by Andi, the two infiltrate the park’s secret labs to restore the android, unaware of the horrors waiting for them.
