‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ Begins ‘Culling Game’ with Theatrical and Streaming Premieres Announced

Timed to the show’s fifth 5th Anniversary Special, GKIDS announced it has acquired theatrical distribution rights for North America to Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution. The theatrical feature will screen in North American theaters in the original Japanese and English dubbed versions beginning December 5. For the first time on the big screen, the Shibuya Incident — the anime’s greatest battle to date — will be presented in a special compilation format. Additionally, Execution presents the debut of the first two episodes of Season 3’s upcoming arc, “Culling Game Part 1,” ahead of its January 2026 streaming debut on Crunchyroll.

In “Culling Game,” Special Grade sorcerer Yuta Okkotsu — the protagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen 0 — finally enters the fray. Appointed by the higher ups of the jujutsu world as Yuji Itadori’s executioner, Yuta must turn his blade on Yuji. The highly anticipated battle between Satoru Gojo’s two beloved students unfolds on the big screen.

Synopsis: A veil abruptly descends over the busy Shibuya area amid the bustling Halloween crowds, trapping countless civilians inside. Satoru Gojo, the strongest jujutsu sorcerer, steps into the chaos. But lying in wait are curse users and spirits scheming to seal him away.

Yuji Itadori, accompanied by his classmates and other top-tier jujutsu sorcerers, enters the fray in an unprecedented clash of curses — the Shibuya Incident. In the aftermath, 10 colonies across Japan are transformed into dens of curses in a plan orchestrated by Noritoshi Kamo, the most wicked sorcerer in history. As the deadly Culling Game starts, Special Grade sorcerer Yuta Okkotsu is assigned to carry out Yuji’s execution for his perceived crimes.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution will be released domestically in Japan under the title Jujutsu Kaisen: The Movie – Shibuya Incident Special Edition x Culling Game Advance Screening on November 7. The upcoming theatrical feature was just announced as a part of the “Jujutsu Kaisen Anime 5th Anniversary Special Live Stream.” The announcement was made alongside the reveal of the series’ upcoming third season airdate, and accompanying new theatrical key visual and Season 3 trailer.

Also referred to as Jujutsu Kaisen The Culling Game, it has been confirmed that Crunchyroll will stream the third season of the hit anime series exclusively worldwide, excluding Asia, with new episodes premiering weekly, same-day as Japan. The third season is due to air in January 2026.

In the new S3 teaser trailer, Yuji Itadori is in conflict and despair after believing he has killed many people from the “Shibuya Incident.” Fans sneak peek a fierce battle between Yuji and Yuta Okkotsu, as well as a heated exchange between new character Naoya Zen’in and Choso. Megumi Fushiguro, Yuki Tsukumo,and Maki Zen’in also make brief appearances in the trailer.

The Japanese voice cast and characters include Junya Enoki as Yuji Itadori, Yuma Uchida as Megumi Fushiguro, Daisuke Namikawa as Choso and Megumi Ogata as Yuta Okkotsu.

The series is directed by Shota Goshozono, with series composition/scripts by Hiroshi Seko. The creative team also includes character designers Yosuke Yajim and Hiromi Niwa, deputy director Yosuke Takada, art director Junichi Higashi, color designer Eiko Matsushima, CG producer Yusuke Tannawa, 3D CG director Daisuke Ishikawa (Monster’s Egg) and composer Yoshimasa Terui.

Jujutsu Kaisen centers on Yuji Itadori — a boy with tremendous physical strength, though he lives a completely ordinary high school life. One day, to save a classmate who has been attacked by “curses,” he eats the finger of Ryomen Sukuna, taking the curse into his own soul. From then on, he shares one body with Ryomen Sukuna. Guided by the most powerful of sorcerers, Satoru Gojo, Itadori is admitted to Tokyo Jujutsu High School, an organization that fights the curses … and thus begins the heroic tale of a boy who became a curse to exorcise a curse, a life from which he could never turn back.

The Jujutsu Kaisen anime series, produced by Toho Animation, animated by MAPPA studio and based on the best-selling manga of the same name by Gege Akutami, published in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump, first aired in October 2020. The globally popular series wrapped up its second season in December, 2023 and was awarded “Anime of the Year” at the 2024 Crunchyroll Anime Awards, among many other prizes.

This year, GKIDS released Jujutsu Kaisen: Hidden Inventory / Premature Death – The Movie in North America, grossing $3.25 million; this was the first new release from the property since the end of the series’ second season, and the first theatrical feature from the franchise since Jujutsu Kaisen 0, which grossed over $188 million globally.
