Following on from the show’s premiere with the sinister swiftness of your favorite slasher villain, Netflix has announced that Haunted Hotel will return for a second season. The 2D animated adult horror-comedy launched last Friday, apparating into the Netflix Global English TV Top 10 list, and hails from creator Matt Roller (co-EP, Krapopolis; writer, Rick and Morty).
The re-up was announced alongside the drop of new character posters inspired by classic horror movies like The Shining, The Exorcist and Children of the Corn.
“I’m thrilled to be working with Netflix and an amazingly talented cast and crew to bring to life the stories of the dead, the evil, and the struggling hospitality workers at the Undervale Hotel,” Roller, whose animation credits also include writing for Son of Zorn and Archer as well as live-action hits Community and Mr. Mayor, told Netflix in a statement.
Haunted Hotel centers on a single mom (Eliza Coupe) of two kids (Skyler Gisondo, Natalie Palamides) who moves in to become the owner-operator of the supernaturally infested Undervale Hotel with the help of her estranged brother (Will Forte), one of ghosts in residence and supporter of the specters’ ideas about running the joint.
The voice cast also features Jimmi Simpson as demon boy Abaddon, with additional roles filled by familiar names like Duncan Trussell, Riki Lindhorne, Fred Tatasciore, Maria Bamford, Cedric Yarbrough, Diedrich Bader, Phil LaMarr, Kari Wahlgren and more.
The show’s supervising director is Erica Hayes (Rick and Morty). Executive producers are Chris McKenna, Dan Harmon, Steve Levy and Matt Roller. Titmouse provides the animation, with Chris Prynoski, Shannon Prynoski, Antonio Canobbio and Ben Kalina also acting as executive producers.
“Haunted Hotel is wildly inventive and I’m very grateful to Matt, Chris, Dan and their team for bringing their talents to Netflix,” said Billy Wee, Netflix’s Director of Adult Animation. “They are phenomenal collaborators and I can’t wait for fans all over the world to experience this hilarious show.”
