Warner Bros. Feature Animation’s Dynamic Duo feature has two new writers: The Wrap reports that Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber (best known for 500 Days of Summer and Daisy Jones and the Six) are rewriting the movie about Batman’s sidekicks, Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. The DC pic will be released on June 30, 2028.
The project is being directed by Arthur Mintz, the co-founder of New Orleans-based Swaybox Studios. Mintz and his wife Theresa Andersson founded Swaybox in 2013. The studio specializes a new proprietary animation technology process called “Momo Animation,” which combines miniatures, models, CG animation, practical elements of stop-motion and live-action real-time performance. Andersson and Gunn will also produce with DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran. Michael Uslan is executive producer.
Dynamic Duo tells the story of how Jason Todd becomes Batman’s new Robin after Dick Grayson leaves him to lead the Teen Titans group. Jason and Dick will form a strong friendship and learn to fight alongside The Dark Knight to save Gotham from evil forces.
The film will be produced by Matt Reeves, director of The Batman and its upcoming sequel, through his 6th & Idaho production company. It has been reported that the movie takes places in a different timeline from the Robert Pattin movie starring Robert Pattinson and is said to be outside the canon.

Back when the movie was first announced in Oct. 2024, DC co-CEO James Gunn tweeted, “Over the moon excited to announced the newest DC StudiosWarner Bros. Pictures Animation greenlit film for theaters, Dynamic Duo, the story of Robin…or should I say, Robins, as in Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. The first feature film from the visionary Swaybox, a mix of animation, puppetry and CGI, a script from the wonderfully talented Matt Aldrich, produced with our partners at Matt Reeves’ 6th & Idaho. This is something special.”
Earlier this year, Gunn suggested there may be a way to make the animated movie “canon” somewhere down the line.” There might be a way it might fit into the DCU,” Gunn tweeted. ”I would love for this animated puppet movie to be a part of the DCU. That’s really appealing to me, but the story is unique, and so it may not work within our universe.”
