BBC Studios are set to launch a new, interactive Yakka Dee! spin-off, Yakka Dee!, What Can You See? on their dedicated channel for the animated series, Yakka Dee! Toddler Learning.
King Banana TV (Nikhil & Jay, Yakka Dee!) produced 15 x 3′ episodes that take language learning to a new level by guiding the preschool audience through a spotting game, turning watching into an exciting interactive challenge that encourages observation, focus and language development. The new digital-first episodes take young viewers to places like the beach, a café, or even into outer space! There are three things for the audience to find within each scene.
“Yakka Dee! What Can You See? is an exciting evolution of the Yakka Dee! brand, designed to spark curiosity and deepen engagement in young learners,” said Cecilia Persson, Managing Director of Kids & Family at BBC Studios. “This new interactive format brings language development to life through play, helping children build essential skills while having fun. We’re proud to continue innovating with King Banana to deliver content that supports early learning and reflects the joyful spirit of Yakka Dee!”
Yakka Dee! is an established preschool hit airing on CBeebies and iPlayer, helping fill a niche in the children’s television space in encouraging early language acquisition skills, a need that is still apparent in many children. Yakka Dee! has a distinct focus on the often-overlooked step that comes before reading: speaking. While many resources target early reading, the series is one of very few dedicated to helping toddlers master their very first words, the building blocks for every other stage of learning. The brand spans a wide range of ages starting very early with babies and also engaging children of up to 5-6 years old who are grasping phonics.
With the energetic Dee as their guide, toddlers learn to say new words — whether speaking for the first time or tackling English as an additional language. Every phoneme is taught in a fun, memorable way, giving children the building blocks for phonics, literacy and lifelong learning. Yakka Dee! is a trusted resource for parents, carers, educators and speech-language specialists worldwide, helping to build children’s confidence and creating memorable learning moments.
BBC Studios manage the Yakka Dee! Toddler Learning channel, which has 1.8 million subscribers, 1.7 billion views and 50.6 million hours watched. The YouTube channel has evolved dynamically with its audience by refining titles, thumbnails and curation to position itself firmly as an educational channel rather than just entertainment. This shift has delivered 62% growth in watch time, 73% growth in subscribers gained and 42% growth in views.
Yakka Dee! Toddler Learning has doubled down on its success, delivering more exclusive content — including 10 original music videos spotlighting friendship, family, learning and diversity.
“We are delighted to build the Yakka Dee! brand and continue to provide content for kids that has enduring benefits,” said Katie Simmons, Creative Director of King Banana. “This builds on King Banana’s portfolio of impactful shows that make a positive difference to children’s lives.”
Yakka Dee! What Can You See? launched on YouTube’s Yakka Dee! Toddler Learning channel on October 25.
