Television, video game and comic-book writer Curtis Baxter (Cartoon Network’s Ben 10, Marvel Comics’ Miles Morales: Spider-Man Annual #1) has acquired the rights to Robert Repino’s sci-fi epic book franchise War with No Name, and has begun production on a series of the same name for Webtoon.
A member of Dan Lin’s Rideback RISE cohort, an accelerator of POC creators, Baxter is also in development on an eight episode animated television series which will dive deeper into each character’s individual journey.
“Reading the War with No Name franchise made me feel like a kid reading some of my beloved favorites for the first time,” said Baxter. “Robert did an incredible job balancing an epic love story and a gritty world packed with action and emotionally deep, relatable characters. I’m honored to get to bring the animals, world and stories to life in a different medium for new and current fans around the globe.”
Expected to debut in early 2026, the War with No Name Webtoon series’ first season will consist of 35 episodes spanning the Mort(e) and Culdesac stori
“There’s a reason why Marvel trusts Curtis with some of its most popular characters,” Repino noted. “His stories have real heart and compassion as well as a willingness to give the narratives a dark edge and realism that makes them memorable and compelling. At its core, War with No Name is a love story in an apocalyptic setting, which is why it needed someone who can reflect that tension.”
Staying true to the books, the Webtoon series will be set against the backdrop of an animal-human war, following housecat Sebastian as he becomes the lethal assassin Mort(e) and travels the country in search of his lost doggie love, Sheba. With the help of a human-hunting militia known as the Red Sphinx, Mort(e) ends up unraveling the mystery of their creator, the Ant Queen.
“When Curtis first pitched the War with No Name series, we were struck by his passion and unique take on this timeless story of love, survival and evolution through anthropomorphic animals’ eyes,” Kisai Entertainment’s CEO, Tessa Yadawaputri, commented. “It’s the kind of narrative that challenges both creators and readers globally to see the world differently, and we are excited to bring it to life in the Webtoon format.”
Baxter’s credits also include Marvel Comics’ Storm: Lifedream #1 and Predator: Black, White and Blood #2, Pocket Gems’ Pretty Little Liars and Lovelink, and the nostalgic Beverly Hills 90210 for Ludia Games. He is repped by Siobhan Blanas at The Gotham Group and Chase Turner at Cowan, DeBaets, Abrahams & Sheppard LLP.
