Following it’s dives into the video game worlds of League of Legends (Arcane), Castlevania, Tomb Raider and Splinter Cell, Netflix has revealed another iconic property is making the leap from console to animated series. Word is circulating that the studio-platform has been developing a Crash Bandicoot adaptation with Toronto-based animation studio WildBrain (Sonic Prime, Carmen Sandiego, The Snoopy Show).
Additional details are yet to be revealed.
Crash Bandicoot launched in 1996 as a PlayStation game developed by Naughty Dog, which put players in the role of the titular marsupial on a 32-level quest to defeat the nefarious Doctor Neo Cortex and rescue his lady love, Tawna. The original game was overseen by Naughty Dog founders Jason Rubin (director of the game) and Andy Gavin (programmer), who brought on animation artists Joe Pearson and Charles Zembillas to help create the characters and story.
Crash Bandicoot was warmly received by players and critics, and spawned numerous platform and mobile game sequels and spin-offs, with the most recent titles being the multiplayer Crash Team Rumble in 2023 (developed by Toys for Bob and published by Activision) and mobile endless runner Crash Bandicoot: On the Run! in 2021 (King/Activision)
The IP also crossed over into other titles, including Skylanders, which led to Crash making an appearance on the Netflix animated series Skylanders Academy.
