It was a sad Friday for fans of Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin’s beloved primetime series, The Great North. Fox finally officially announced that it has canceled the series, which is exec produced by Loren Bouchard (Bob’s Burgers). The show was missing from the network’s lineup when it announced its 2025-26 season back in May.
“We’re so grateful for everything Wendy, Lizzie, Loren and the amazing cast and crew put into The Great North,” said Michael Thorn, president of Fox Television Network. “It’s difficult to say goodbye, but we’re thankful for the five hilarious seasons The Great North brought to the iconic Animation Domination lineup.”

The show’s co-creator Wendy Molyneux wrote on Instagram, “Before I sundown this account, I wanna say a huge thanks to everyone who worked on The Great North! Some of the best people in the world! You made a beautiful show! And it still exists! And probably more importantly, if you are a line producer, exec, or showrunner and you are hiring, hit us up for staff in all categories. Some great professionals we worked with for years and can vouch for. And thanks to our small but proud group of fans. Keep recommending it. You never know! Animation never dies! Finally, don’t forget to stare at nature’s majesty in wild wonder and say ‘Hot dog.’”
With animation produced by Bento Box, the comedy series centered on the Alaskan adventures of the Tobin family, as single dad Beef (Nick Offerman) does his best to keep his bunch of kids close – especially his only daughter, Judy (Jenny Slate), whose artistic dreams lead her away from the family fishing boat and into the glamorous world of the local mall. The family also included Judy’s older brother, Wolf (Will Forte), and his wife, Honeybee (Dulcé Sloan), middle brother Ham (Paul Rust) and 10-year-old, going-on-50 little brother Moon (Aparna Nancherla). Helping Judy with her day to day trials are her boss, Alyson (Megan Mullally), and her imaginary friend, Alanis Morissette (as herself), who appears to her in the Northern Lights. The show premiered on Fox on Jan. 3, 2021 and the last episode aired on Sept. 14, 2025.
The Molyneux sisters, who also worked on Bob’s Burgers, were the show’s executive producers and showrunners. Minty Lewis penned the script. The Great North is a 20th Television Animation production, and animation is produced through Bento Box Entertainment. The show was nominated for an Annie Award (2025) and Critics Choice Award (2022).
