A new venture has been launched by the creators of the JibJab viral web toon studio and StoryBots transmedia edutainment property (the basis for the Annie and Daytime Emmy-winning children’s series Ask the StoryBots). Spiridellis Bros. Studios, founded by Evan and Gregg Spiridellis, is an “AI-powered animation studio” which plans to leverage the technology across original film, TV, shorts, games and toy brand projects.
The studio is being launched with backing from Polaris Founders Capital, Caruso Ventures, Google’s AI Futures Fund, Ashton Kutcher, Guy Oseary, Chris and Crystal Sacca, Tim Ferriss and Katie Stanton.
Spiridellis Bros.’ first project is due to release in January 2026. Additional details were not revealed.
“For the past 25 years, Evan and I have ridden every major technology wave. AI isn’t just another wave; it’s a tsunami that will transform the way entertainment is created, produced and distributed, and we couldn’t be more excited to build what comes next,” Gregg Spiridellis said in their launch statement.
The announcement asserts that the founders believe generative AI will pave the way to “bold new entertainment experiences and out-innovate the legacy studios constrained by outdated production models,” and that the tech causing rifts through the animation industry and broader global production landscape is “simply a cost-cutting shortcut” that might serve as “a new creative canvas.”
