New ‘Miraculous’ Movie Powers Up with Producer John Cohen & Writer Matt Roller

Miraculous Corp — the joint venture formed just over a year ago between Mediawan and ZAG — today announced the creative team behind its global theatrical Miraculous animated feature. Producer John Cohen (Despicable Me) and writer Matt Roller (Rick and Morty) will be working alongside Jeremy Zag, who will also serve as a producer on the film. The announcement, made today by Andy Yeatman, CEO of Miraculous Corp USA and Global Operations, comes as the brand marks its 10th anniversary this year.

“For a decade, Ladybug and Cat Noir have inspired millions through stories that celebrate courage, friendship, and compassion — qualities the world needs now more than ever,” commented Yeatman. “John’s extraordinary record of delivering global animated hits and Matt’s rare gift for blending heart, humor and imagination will ensure our film not only thrills audiences but also deepens their connection to these beloved heroes. With Jeremy Zag’s guiding vision as a producer, fans can trust that the heart of Miraculous will shine brighter than ever.”

Since its launch in 2015, Miraculous has become one of the most powerful animated franchises worldwide, winning over 40 prestigious awards and captivating audiences in over 150 countries. Miraculous – Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir follows Marinette and Adrien, two Parisian teenagers entrusted with magical powers to protect the city from supervillains. Inspired by the style and storytelling of Japanese anime, Miraculous blends action, romance, and humor with deeper themes of resilience, courage and identity. Today, it stands as a benchmark in values-driven entertainment for young audiences worldwide.

The Miraculous brand has a massive global digital ecosystem, garnering over 48 billion views on YouTube, with more than 43 million subscribers across 31 localized channels. On TikTok, the brand boasts more than 1 billion views and across all platforms — including YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, X and TikTok — Miraculous has built a community of more than 56 million followers. Beyond the screen, Miraculous has extended into toys, books, fashion, games and live events.

“We are incredibly proud to open a new chapter for Miraculous Corp, and to see our ambition come to life on the big screen with a feature film,” Jeremy Zag and Pierre-Antoine Capton shared in a joint statement. “United by a shared vision, we are dedicated to bringing Miraculous to a global audience and further developing this exceptional franchise by exploring new creative frontiers and producing ambitious projects led by top talent and driven by the passion of our creative teams. We are delighted to welcome John Cohen and Matt Roller into Miraculous Corp, who will join us in taking Ladybug and Cat Noir to new heights and enchanting audiences around the world.”

John Cohen is currently in production on The Angry Birds Movie 3, starring Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Rachel Bloom, Danny McBride, Emma Myers, Keke Palmer, Tim Robinson, Marcello Hernandez and Walker Scobell, set for theatrical release by Paramount Pictures on December 23, 2026. In 2024, he produced The Garfield Movie, released theatrically by Sony Pictures, which debuted at #1 on Netflix and remained in the top spot for three weeks. His credits also include The Angry Birds Movie 2 (2019) and The Angry Birds Movie (2016, earning $352 million worldwide), Despicable Me (2010), Hop (2011), Ice Age, Alvin and the Chipmunks and the Emmy-nominated Big Nate series.

“I’ve been a huge fan of Miraculous for years. Few franchises in the world have captured hearts the way Miraculous has, with its mix of character-driven storytelling, fantastic comedy, breathtaking action, and empowering themes,” said Cohen. “This is a series that has become a true cultural icon, uniting fans from Paris to São Paulo to Seoul. The chance to help craft Ladybug and Cat Noir’s global theatrical feature film — building on their incredible legacy — was irresistible.”

Matt Roller is the creator, showrunner, and executive producer of the recent Netflix animated comedy Haunted Hotel, which premiered on September 19. His television career includes writing for Community (2011–2015), the Emmy-nominated Speechless (2016–2019), The Goldbergs (2014–2016), where he also held the role of co-executive producer for two seasons, and Mr. Mayor (2021-2022). In animation, he was a writer and story editor on Rick and Morty (2017–2022), a consulting producer/writer on Archer (2016–2019), co-executive producer/writer on Krapopolis (2023–present), and co-producer/writer on Agent Elvis.

In film, Roller’s script Abbi and the Eighth Wonder landed on The Black List and is set up at Sony/TriStar with Clea DuVall set to direct. He is currently writing an original comedy for Sony and has written scripts for several as-yet-unannounced feature films for Sony Animation, Netflix Animation, Tristar and Village Roadshow. His original comedy screenplay Senior Trip and horror feature Daddy Issues are currently in development.

“What excites me about Miraculous is how it balances epic superhero spectacle with deeply relatable characters and stories about real emotions — love, trust, jealousy, hope,” commented Roller. “That combination makes it a dream playground for a storyteller. I can’t wait to take these heroes and their world into a fresh, exciting chapter that will surprise audiences while staying true to everything they love about Miraculous.”

Cohen is represented by Fred Toczek at Felker Toczek Suddleson McGinnis Ryan. Roller is represented by Pete Stein at CAA with management by Eryn Brown and Marc Mounier at Entertainment 360.
