NYCC: Crunchyroll Updates Its Anime Slate & Launches Manga App

Global anime destination Crunchyroll laid out a feast for fans at New York Comic Con with a packed Showcase full of news, trailers and special guests…

The platform has acquired worldwide theatrical rights (excluding most Asian territories) for the fantasy anime feature film That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the Movie: Tears of the Azure Sea. The film, which is produced by studio 8-Bit and will be released by Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment, is an all-new standalone story and the second film in the fan-favorite franchise, which is available to watch on Crunchyroll. Theatrical dates to be announced.

Synopsis: After concluding the opening ceremony of the Demon Kingdom Federation Tempest, Rimuru and his companions are invited by the Celestial Emperor Hermesia of the great elven nation — the Magi Dynasty Salion — to visit her private resort island. As the group enjoys their brief vacation, a mysterious woman named Yura appears. A new incident unfolds against the backdrop of the boundless azure sea.

[Oshi no Ko] is officially coming to Crunchyroll, with the highly anticipated Season 3 set to stream this winter. The hit series has become an anime phenomenon worldwide, and its arrival on Crunchyroll marks a major moment for fans excited about the continuation of the pop diva drama.

Attendees also got the world premiere trailer for Daemons of the Shadow Realm, the upcoming anime based on Hiromu Arakawa’s (Fullmetal Alchemist) manga. The series will premiere first on Crunchyroll in April 2026. Aniplex producer Sota Furuhashi took the stage to present the global debut of the first full trailer.

Fans also got a brand-new teaser visual offering the first look at fan-favorite character Qifrey in the upcoming anime adaptation of Witch Hat Atelier.

The new Crunchyroll Manga app has now debuted in the U.S. and Canada on iOS and Android, offering hundreds of titles from Alphapolis, COMPASS, Square Enix, VIZ Media and Yen Press. The service features mobile and tablet reading with offline access. A web version launches October 15. Crunchyroll Manga is included with the Ultimate Fan membership, with add-on options available for other premium Crunchyroll plans. NYCC attendees can catch a demo at Booth #1643.

The Crunchyroll Manga app launches with a slew of titles, many of which are the inspiration behind fan-favorite anime series available on Crunchyroll, such as The Apothecary Diaries, Black Clover, Bungo Stray Dogs, Dr. Stone, Haikuy!!, Jujutsu Kaisen, Kaiju No. 8, My Dress-Up Darling, My Hero Academia, Naruto, One Piece, Sasaki and Miyano, Spy x Family and more.

This year’s Crunchyroll Showcase hit the ground running with an unexpected team up: anime and track & field. Olympic Champion Noah Lyles made a surprise visit on stage, giving fans a firsthand look at his coveted Adidas-powered Crunchyroll collaboration and the role anime plays in his life. The energy carried over to the Crunchyroll Store at Booth #1653, where the collection has become a hit with fans on day one of the ‘con.
