‘ParaNorman’ Remaster Resurrects in Theaters with $2M Short Run

Following on from its record-breaking anniversary re-release of Coraline, LAIKA has brought another of its stop-motion animated classics back to life on the big screen. The short-run theatrical release of ParaNorman (Remastered) scared up an impressive $2.06 million in worldwide box office through Monday, October 27.

“We’re thrilled to see families and new fans rediscover ParaNorman (Remastered) on the big screen,” said David Burke, LAIKA Chief Marketing and Operations Officer. “The response validates our belief that handcrafted storytelling and event-level presentation have a powerful place in today’s theatrical landscape.”

The film earned $1.277M alone from its U.S. engagements, delivering the fifth-highest per screen average domestically on its third day. Fathom Entertainment kicked off the U.S. run on Saturday, October 25. International market distribution was handled by Trafalgar releasing, adding up to $782K  from overseas theaters from Oct. 23-27.

“Audiences continue to show up for LAIKA’s worlds,” said Ray Nutt, CEO of Fathom Entertainment and the exclusive U.S. theatrical distributor for the re-release of ParaNorman (Remastered). “Crossing the million-dollar mark on a short run proves ParaNorman is a true fan event, not just a catalog title.”

ParaNorman (Remastered) illustrates the studio’s progressive, long-view approach to event cinema, building renewed audience engagement over time rather than through a single release window. The newly remastered 3D event release is a highlight of ongoing celebrations of LAIKA’s 20th Anniversary.

The feature was also accompanied by an all-new CG short, The Thrifting, featuring the voices of Anna Kendrick and Finn Wolfhard as a theatrical exclusive. As previously announced, attendees of the 2025 World Animation Summit can catch a special focus session on LAIKA’s 20-year legacy, including a look inside the making of the new short and a discussion with ParaNorman and Missing Link writer-director Chris Butler and LAIKA’s filmmaking team.

ParaNorman (Remastered) audiences were also treated to an exclusive first look at Wildwood: Where Magic Takes Flight, a new behind-the-scenes featurette offering a glimpse into LAIKA’s next cinematic feat.

Originally released in 2012, ParaNorman follows Norman Babcock — a boy who can speak to the dead — as he must save his town from a centuries-old curse. The film was nominated for the Academy Award and BAFTA Award for Best Animated Feature and originally opened to $14.1 million at the U.S. box office, ultimately grossing $56.0 million domestic, $52.1 million internationally, and $108.1 million worldwide during its initial theatrical run.
