Fans of rap artist, comedian and actor Dave Burd — known on stage and through headphones worldwide as Lil Dicky — is reportedly in talks to sell an original animated feature to DreamWorks Animation (The Wild Robot, The Bad Guys, Trolls, Shrek). The Hollywood Report relates the mysterious pitch has been the object of “a highly competitive situation.”
No working title or plot details have been revealed for the project as yet.
In addition to his multi-platinum rap career, Burd is known as the co-creator/EP/writer and star of the FX comedy series Dave, which is based on his life. The highly rated show ran for three seasons from 2020-23, and Burd’s latest album Penith (The Dave Soundtrack), release in 2024, includes songs from across the series. Penith was his second studio album, following 2015’s Professional Rapper, which debuted at No. 7 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart.
Burd is represented by UTA and Hansen Jacobson.
DreamWorks Animation’s upcoming releases include Joel Crawford & Januel Mercado’s Forgotten Island (Sept. 25, 2026), CoComelon: The Movie (Feb. 26, 2027), the live-action reimagining How to Train Your Dragon 2 (June 11, 2027) and Shrek 5 (June 30, 2027). Projects in development include new sequels and spinoffs for its Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda, Shrek, Boss Baby, The Bad Guys, Dog Man and The Wild Robot films.
