Ncuti Gatwa Joins Cynthia Erivo in ‘Bad Fairies’ from WBPA & Locksmith

Ncuti Gatwa has joined the cast of Bad Fairies, the upcoming animated musical-comedy feature from Warner Bros. Pictures Animation and Locksmith Animation. He boards the project following last month’s announcement that Wicked star Cynthia Erivo will lead the cast.

Known for his breakout role in Sex Education, Gatwa recently starred as The Doctor in Doctor Who and appeared in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. On stage in London, he’s received acclaim for The Importance of Being Earnest and Born With Teeth.

Bad Fairies is an original musical comedy that follows a delightfully subversive gang of fairies as they shake up their magical world.

This will be the first feature released under the first look deal between Warner Bros. Pictures Animation and Locksmith Animation and will debut theatrically via Warner Bros. Pictures on May 21, 2027.

The film is directed by Centaurworld creator Megan Nicole Dong and co-directed by DreamWorks character animation veteran Olivier Staphylas, from an original screenplay by Deborah Frances-White.

Tony Award-winning duo Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss (Six: The Musical) will write the original songs, with multiple Grammy-nominated Isabella “Machine” Summers (Florence + The Machine) composing the score and contributing to the songs. Ian Eisendrath (KPop Demon Hunters) is executive music producer.

The film’s creative team also includes producer Carolyn Soper, editor Sim Evan-Jones, cinematographer James C.J. Williams, character designer Uwe Heidschötter, heads of story Rikke Asbjoern and Chris Garbutt, and production designers Justin Hutchinson-Chatburn and Mike Redman.

Production is currently underway in London, with DNEG Animation serving as digital partner.

Ncuti Gatwa is repped by Curtis Brown, UTA, Status PR UK and Ziffren Brittenham LLP.
