Netflix Announces New Adult Animated Comedy ‘Living the Dream’

Today Netflix announced Living the Dream, an incisively observed workplace sitcom from BAFTA nominated multi-hyphenate George Gendi (Gumball, Apple & Onion) and Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe. News of the upcoming adult animation was unveiled by Julio Bonet (Director, Animation Series at Netflix) at Manchester Animation Festival, during the ‘State of the Animation Nation’ panel.

Synopsis: Best friends Des and Ray are a couple of really cool guys from London who should have made it big by now but haven’t but still could. Instead they’re stuck at a we’re-gonna-save-the-planet type company called Ecofood, doing “social media” for hardly any money. Now they must navigate awkward workplace romance, HR blunders, directives from the L.A. office and Ray’s dad’s disapproval. Could be worse, but could be much, much better.

“If living the dream is being asked for a quote for a press release to announce my new show and then at Netflix’s request, trying to make it more cheeky/funny and then doing that countless times because none of them are good enough, then I’ve made it,” said Gendi. “Anyway, let’s see if they let me use this one.”

Gendi is the 8 x 25′ series’ writer, creator and one of the voice stars. The Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe production (part of the Warner Bros. Animation division) is executive produced by Gendi, Sam Register (Looney Tunes Cartoons, Teen Titans Go!), Sarah Fell (The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball, The Heroic Quest of the Valiant Prince Ivandoe) & Daniel Lennard (The Amazing World of Gumball, The Heroic Quest of the Valiant Prince Ivandoe). The writers also include Phoebe Walsh, Ellie White, Joe Parnham and Joe Markham.

Ireland’s Boulder Media (Danger Mouse, Captain Fall, Cat Burglar, The Amazing World of Gumball) is the series animation studio.

Alongside the recently announced Ricky Gervais project Alley Cats, the new series spotlights Netflix U.K.’s investment in homegrown adult animation.
