Sandra Oh, Tara Strong and More Join ‘Fairyheart’ Voice Cast

Ahead of the film’s showcase at American Film Market this week, Fairyheart has signed on Emmy and Golden Globe winner Sandra Oh (Killing Eve, Raya and the Last Dragon) as part of the animated feature’s lead voice cast in the role of Iris. Also lending their vocal chops will be prolific voice star Tara Strong (My Little Pony: The Movie) as Gigi, a magical capybara unicorn; Emma Ho (The Expanse) as Bea, a brave but lonely human girl; and Delia Chambers (Super Why’s Comic Book Adventures) as Lala, the fairy prince of Tunderra.

Odin’s Eye Animation, a toon-focused brand of Australian distributor Odin’s Eye Entertainment, is handling sales for the indie co-pro. The film is produced by Mythberg Films (Hungary), Storyteller Pictures and Lakeside Animation (Canada), and Traumhaus Studios (Germany), and slated for delivery in Q1 2028.

Based on the Tündér Lala (commonly translated as Fairy Lala in English) by Hungarian author Magda Szabó, Fairyheart is directed by Anita Doron (screenwriter for the Oscar-nominated animated feature The Breadwinner), who also adapted the screenplay with Attila Gigor. The story centers on Lala, the only child in the immortal fairy world, whose curiosity about humans defies the laws of the wizard Aterpater, who wants to put an end to the fairies’ existence by cutting a thread connecting them to humans.

Synopsis: In the hidden realm of Tundara, joy is more than an emotion — it’s spun into thread, nourishing the land through ancient fig trees that bind the magical and mortal worlds together. Lala, a mischievous young fairy prince, longs for connection beyond his world. When he finds Bea, a grieving human girl, their friendship sparks a dangerous unraveling of the balance between realms. As an ancient fear awakens, they must defy tradition and find the courage to protect what truly matters: each other.

Producers on the film are are Jozsef Berger, Krisztina Endrenyi for Mythberg, Réka Temple for Cinemon, Paul Lenart for Storyteller, Iouri Stepanov and Courtney Wolfson for Lakeside and Michael Luda for Traumhaus. The production has received support from the Hungarian National Film Institute, Telefilm Canada, Ontario Creates, Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung, Creative Europe and Eurimages.
