Nintendo fans will explore new worlds inspired by its expansive video game brand Super Mario, peeked in the just-released official trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Coming to theaters in April 2026 from Universal Pictures and its animation studio Illumination, the film’s preview debuted during a Nintendo Direct livestream this morning.
In the spot, we catch back up with super-shrunk Bowser, now held captive in a dollhouse sized castle by Mario and Luigi, as well as Princess Peach and Toad. Inspired by the Super Mario Galaxy video game, the footage follows our heroes as they venture into the stars, hopping between planets with wildly different environments. They also face off with Bowser Jr. and meet the battle-ready Princess Rosalina.
Per the Nintendo website, the sequel welcomes new voice stars Brie Larson as Rosaline and Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr. The returning voice stars are Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
Following their smashing box-office success with 2023’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie — which jumped to $1.36 billion in worldwide boxes, reaching multiple milestones including the Guinness World Record for highest-grossing film based on a video game and the highest-grossing Illumination production — Teen Titans Go! vets Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic return as directors, and Matthew Fogel is back on screenplay duty.
