Whether young Dakota Fanning will be able to make an Elizabeth Taylor-like transition from child star to grown up actor remains to be seen.

Whatever the future holds, her current career as award-winning tyke phenom continues apace.

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Fanning has been signed to voice the title character in Coraline from Laika Entertainment.

Henry Selick (Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, James and the Giant Peach) is set to write and direct.

The story of best-selling novel by Neil Gaiman centers on a young girl who discovers an Alice In Wonderland alternate version of her life after walking through a secret door in her new home. There she finds a parallel life that seems to be better than her old life. Until her fantasy parents try to keep her from ever returning to her real life.

Fanning has had a career nothing short of amazing since she started work at six. Her credits include War of the Worlds, Man on Fire, I Am Sam and the upcoming Dreamer: Inspired by a True Story and Charlotte’s Web.
