JibJab Mashes Up Living Dead

Just in time for Halloween, web cartoon sensation JibJab.com today launched a new interactive cartoon project that puts viewers in the middile of a political horror show. JibJab founders Evan and Gregg Spiridellis teamed with CNN Politics to offer a video mashup of the George A. Romero horror classic Night of the Living Dead that allows visitors to upload their own headshots and get into the action.

Using JibJab’s ‘Starring You!’ technology, users can upload photos, cut out their heads and put themselves in one of two micro movies that employ footage from the black-and-white zombie movie. Night of the Living Democrats has mindless liberal zombies rising from the grave, while Night of the Living Republicans warns of brain-dead conservatives walking the earth.

Since launching ‘Starring You!’ in August, JibJab has seen more than a million visitors upload their pics to make movies starring themselves. CNET’s News.com even dubbed it ‘The greatest office time-waster in history’.

JibJab has been making popular web cartoons for the past eight years, and became a household name with the hugely popular This Land parody of the 2004 presidential race, which got more hits than both the official John Kerry and George Bush websites combine. The company has since landed distribution partnerships with Yahoo! and MSN, produced branded entertainment for Anheuser-Busch and Verizon Wireless, and premiered ten videos on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. This past March 2007, the Spiridellis brothers premiered their media satire, ‘What We Call the News’, in front of President George W. Bush States at the Radio and Television Correspondents Dinner in Washington, DC.
