With Shrek the Third opening on Friday, DreamWorks Animation is already revving up the promotional machine for its next CG family flick. The New York Daily News reports that voice star Jerry Seinfeld will appear on NBC in a micro-series featuring 20 shorts based on the upcoming pic.
Seinfeld spun the series idea off from the Bee Movie teaser trailers that feature him dressed as an insect and bussing around an oversized set before Steven Spielberg suggests they make the film with animation. (See it here: www.animationmagazine.net/tv/). The one- to two-minute live-action shorts will be spread throughout the NBC fall schedule and will be available on NBC.com. In exchange for airing the promotional pieces, NBC will reportedly get U.S. cable and broadcast rights to the film.
Sated for release on Nov. 2, Bee Movie is co-written and co-produced by Seinfeld, who voices the role of Barry B. Benson, a recent college graduate who wants to do more with his life than make honey. Venturing out of the hive, he meets a florist named Vanessa (Renee Zellweger) and decides to sue the human race for stealing honey from bees. The film’s all-star cast also includes Chris Rock (Madagascar), John Goodman (Monsters, Inc.), Patrick Warburton (The Emperor’s New Groove) and Megan Mullally (Will & Grace).
