Gugino Joins Watchmen Cast

Carla Gugino (Sin City, the Spy Kids trilogy) has joined the cast of Warner Bros. Pictures’ Watchmen, the long awaited adaptation of DC Comics’ Hugo Award-winning graphic novel by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. The pic is the next project for director Zack Snyder, who previously helmed the remake of Dawn of the Dead and became Warner Bros.’ golden boy when his adaptation of the Frank Miller graphic novel 300 proved an international box-office success.

Originally published 1986, Watchmen is set in a time when superheroes have been outlawed and revolves around a group of caped crusaders who struggle with their own personal demons while trying to avert a nuclear war between the United States and Russia.

Gugino will assume the role of Sally Jupiter, a burlesque dancer who once fought crime as Silk Spectre of the Minutemen. Sally is the mother of the new Silk Spectre, played by Malin Akerman. The cast also includes Billy Crudup, Patrick Wilson, Jackie Earle Haley, Matthew Goode and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

Warner Bros. is slated to begin shooting Watchmen this fall in Vancouver with Larry Gordon, Lloyd Levin and Deborah Snyder on board as producers. Jessica Goodman is overseeing for Legendary Pictures, which is co-financing the film.
