Iron Man Trailer Hits the Web

A sneak peek at Marvel Studios’ upcoming Iron Man movie was the big hit of San Diego Comic-Con over the summer, and now everyone can get a glimpse of Robert Downey Jr. in action as superhero Tony Stark. Apple has posted a Quicktime trailer or the highly anticipated comic-book adaptation, which Paramount Pictures will release on May 2, 2008.

Iron Man tells the story of billionaire industrialist and genius inventor Tony Stark (Downey), who creates an armored suit to help him battle villains. Gwyneth Paltrow will play Stark’s personal assistant Virginia “Pepper” Potts, and Terrence Howard will portray Jim “Rhodey” Rhodes, Stark’s best friend and a decorated military pilot. Jeff Bridges is also on board as a close business associate of Stark’s, a confidant and longtime employee at defense contractor Stark Industries.

Having previously brought The Hulk to life for Marvel and Universal, Lucasfilm Ltd.’s Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) is serving as the principle visual effects house on Iron Man, and sister company Skywalker Sound is handling sound design and mix duties. As the trailer suggests, the pic will offer a good mix of practical suit work and CG animation to bring the steel-plated crusader to the screen.
