With Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and The Flash all appearing on screen at the same time, Warner Bros.’s Justice League of America movie could end up being the greatest superhero movie ever made, or it could be a disaster if the casting is off. That’s why director George Miller (Happy Feet, Babe: Pig in the City) has been looking at a lot of young actors lately. One, a British thespian named Rupert Evans (Hellboy), is now rumored to have the role of Superman, according to Darkhorizons.com.
Clark Kent/Superman has recently been played on television by Tom Welling in The CW’s Smallville, and on the big screen by Brandon Routh in Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns. Since neither will be involved in Justice League, there will be three different versions of the Man of Steel flying around. Routh was partly chosen for his resemblance to the late Christopher Reeve, but Evans would be a more baby-faced version of Kal El.
Before trying out for the caped crusader from Krypton, 30-year-old Evans played rookie agent John Myers in Hellboy, director Guillermo del Toro’s 2004 adaptation of the Mike Mignola comic book series published by Darkhorse Comics. His other credits include Guantanamero and the telepics movies North & South and Fingersmith.
