Spiderwick Crawling to IMAX

Paramount Pictures/Nickelodeon Movies’ fantasy-adventure flick The Spiderwick Chronicles is the latest big vfx film to get an IMAX release date. IMAX Corp. and Paramount today announced today that the pic will be will be open in IMAX theaters on Feb. 15, 2008, the same day it arrives in conventional theatres. The deal is one of four struck between Paramount and IMAX in the past five months. The performance-capture feature will launch in IMAX 3D on Nov. 16.

Based on the popular kid lit series written by Holly Black and illustrated by Tony DiTerlizzi, The Spiderwick Chronicles has three young siblings pulled into an alternate world full of faeries and other creatures after moving into the run-down Spiderwick Estate with their mother. The film stars Freddie Highmore, Mary-Louise Parker, Nick Nolte, Joan Plowright and David Strathairn, and features Seth Rogen and Martin Short in voice roles.

The movie is directed by Mark Waters (Mean Girls, Freaky Friday) and produced by Mark Canton (300) from a screenplay by Over the Hedge director Karey Kirkpatrick, David Berenbaum (Elf) and filmmaker John Sayles (Limbo). Kirkpatrick is also producing, along with Larry Franco and Ellen Goldsmith-Vein. Visual effects are created by Industrial Light & Magic and Tippett Studio.
