Moviehole.com reports that Charlie’s Angels director Joseph McGinty Nichol, better known as McG, has been hired to helm the next installment in the Terminator Franchise. Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins will continue the saga of mankind’s struggle against the machines and their cyborg assassins.
McG returns to the action genre after making an unexpected detour with last year’s inspirational drama We Are Marshall, the true story of the rebuilding of Marshall University’s football program after the entire team was wiped out in an plane crash. The director also ventured into television as exec producer of NBC’s Chuck and The CW’s Supernatural.
The Terminator property is also making a move to the small screen. On January 14, FOX will begin airing Warner Bros. Television’s The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and action series based on the films. War of the Worlds writer Josh Friedman serves as exec producer and showrunner on the project. All the action is said to take place between the second and third movies. New actors have been hired to take over the roles made famous by Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton.
