Though many may consider it a waste to have Penelope Cruz heard but not seen in a movie, the actress has signed on to be one of the lead voices in Disney’s G-Force, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Produced with Jerry Bruckheimer Films, the family movie will feature a combination of live action and CG animation as it tells the story of an elite team of intelligent animal commandoes that must stop a villainous billionaire from taking over the world.
Cruz will voice the role of a guinea pig named Juarez. Nicolas Cage will reportedly provide the voice of a mole named Speckles, while Steve Buscemi plays as hamster named Bucky, and Tracy Morgan gives voice to a guinea pig named Blaster. The animated characters will play alongside Bill Nighy as an industrialist and Arnett as an FBI agent.
The film marks the directorial debut of visual effects artist Hoyt Yeatman, who earned an Oscar for James Cameron’s The Abyss and also picked up a Technical Achievement Award from the Academy. Jerry Bruckheimer is producing, and Bruckheimer Films’ Mike Stenson and Chad Oman are exec producing with Duncan Henderson. The film is slated for a May 1, 2009 release date.
