The official web site for 20th Century Fox’s The Simpsons Movie won the top prize and was also voted the People’s Voice winner in the Movie and Film category for this year’s Webby Awards. Other big winners include MTV Networks’ Nickelodeon site, Nick.Com, which took People’s Voice in the Youth category, where Scholastic.com won the Webby for its redesign by agency Huge.
Created by 65 Media, the Simpsons Movie site (www.simpsonsmovie.com) beat out Atom Films, the popular online video site featuring animated and live-action shorts. The other nominees in the category were sites for the PBS Documentary series P.O.V. (www.pbs.org/pov) and the movies Evan Almighty (www.getonboard.org) and Grindhouse (www.bigspaceship.com).
MTV Networks’ Noggin.com was nominated in the Television category, but ended up losing to HBO Voyuer (www.hbovoyeur.com) and People’s Voice selection Discovery Channel’s I, Videogame (www.discoverychannel.co.uk/ivideogame). Also nominated were sites for Sundance Channel’s series Iconoclasts (www.sundancechannel.com/iconoclasts) and the SCI FI Channel miniseries Tinman (www.scifi.com/tinman/oz).
The site for PBS KIDS Sprout (SproutOnline.com) was up for the Family/ Parenting Webby, which went to Kids Health (http://KidsHealth.org), while Kongregate (www.kongregate.com) took both awards in the Games category beating out ElectroCity (www.electrocity.co.nz), Launchball (www.sciencemuseum.org.uk/launchpad/launchball), Discovery Channel’s Sharkrunners (http://dsc.discovery.com/convergence/sharkweek/shark-runners/shark-runners.html) and World Without Oil (www.worldwithoutoil.org).
The Webby for Best Use of Animation or Motion Graphics went to the Coke site Happiness Factory – Now Hiring (http://www.coke.com/hf), designed by agency AKQA, while the People’s Voice award was given to the Zune site http://www.zunejourney.net by T.A.G. Agency. Also nominated were Audi A5 – A Rhythm of Lines (www.awardentryaudi.com/webbys/automotive/a5/index.html), Electronic Arts Sim City’ DS (http://simcityds.ea.com) and MTV Puberty (www.wddg.net/Awards/MTVPuberty_website.htm).
