Entertainment Rights Plc (ER) has partnered with leading internet video sites YouTube, Joost and Babelgum to launch the Retro Heroes channel. The multi-platform initiative will offer online access to many of the company’s key brands, including He-Man, She-Ra, Trapdoor, Felix the Cat, Rocky & Bullwinkle, The Archies’, Fat Albert and Casper the Friendly Ghost.
‘These partnerships signal a significant step forward for the company delivering a multiplatform strategy which sees its brands successfully evolving outside of the linear TV platforms into the digital environment,’ says Laura Turner Laing, VP of ER’s global digital media and music unit. ‘Entertainment Rights wants to be where the audience is and online video enables the company to exploit its brands which have strong retro appeal.’
The YouTube version of Retro Heroes will feature short form (2- and 5-minute webisodes) selected from the 1,000 hours of retro content in ER’s catalog of 3,600 hours of children’s and family programming. The partnerships formed with Babelgum and Joost will see Retro Heroes launch with long-form content from ER’s protfoilo of classic properties.
